DIY Layered Frames

Updated: Mar 24, 2019

Since sharing pictures of our guest bedroom/office - I've received a lot of questions about the layered frames above our bed so I decided to share all the details & why I chose to do this piece! Check out the details below! --

//So why the frames?

Not gonna lie - I'm a sign junky! I love all the pretty words, fonts & fun sayings, but after buying & building up a collection of signs - I realized that my sign loving self needed to calm down because it became TOO MANY signs & words! đŸ˜”đŸ€Ș Too many words can cause clutter & make a room busy which I want to avoid! đŸ™…â€â™€ïž So when it came to finding a piece to go over the bed in our office/guestroom I was kinda stuck for awhile because I could not figure out what else to put besides a sign! I wanted something that was antique farmhouse, but also not going cost a huge fortune! Luckily, I stumbled upon the idea from the magazine, Country Sampler Farmhouse Style & I fell in love with the simplicity, uniqueness & of course the vintage chippy feel!

//Where do you buy the frames?

Despite them looking aged & antique - these frames are all from Hobby Lobby! Hobby Lobby has a section where they sell JUST frames without the glass or backing! If you check their sales - you can snag them all 50% off too! Originally, I wanted to hunt down some antique vintage ones or thrift some cheap ones & paint them, but I was so ready for this room to be finally finished that I just saved myself the hassle & went out & bought them all instead. Despite being a vintage remake & not the real deal - they still match my aesthetic very well in this room & achieved the look I wanted! â˜ș

You can purchase the exact frames I used from Hobby Lobby in store or online by clicking on the linked titles below:

~As mentioned - wait till these are 50% before purchasing to make this project more affordable~

Layered frames make a great architectural piece to break up the room!

//How did you get them to stay together?

I arranged the layered pictures on the floor & my hubby used a drill to screw them together so that they don't come apart!

//Is this project affordable?

The way I did it by just buying frames was a little more pricey, but you could go to Salvation Army, Goodwill or any thrift store to find antique frames & paint them or use them in their original condition to create the layered look for less! Or you could thrift a few & buy a few new ones you really love to keep it in budget! It's all about what you love & how much effort you're willing to put in!

And there ya have it! My easy & very doable layered frame look! The good thing about the layered frame look is there's no right or wrong to do it! It's just what you like & arranging the frames in a way that accommodate the wall space you have! You can make this piece big & grand or small & petite depending on the frames you put together! Again, there's no right or wrong way to do this - it's what you want & like!

I hope y'all enjoyed this little DIY home decor idea & if you try it in your home - please tag me & I'll be sure to share on my social channels! And as always, thanks for reading! đŸ–€đŸ–€đŸ–€
