Garden Diaries Entry #7

Back for an update on the garden, but sadly this one isn't as positive of one... On my last garden blog post - Garden Diaries Entry #6 I shared everything I was growing for seeds. Sadly, those seeds all died when I had to make a last minute, unexpected trip to Michigan due to my oldest brother passing away. It was difficult enough finding someone to watch our dogs and my gracious friends (shoutout to Shannon and Clay!) watered the brand new hygrandeas I just bought for our porch. I didn't want to burden anyone else with the tasks of watering my seed starters in my indoor garage greenhouse. So sadly they all were a loss. However, as soon as I got back I went to the store to at least get some starter plants so my garden wasn't a total loss and empty this season.
Here's what's going in my garden now -
Roma tomatoes (4)
Beefsteak tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes
Yellow squash
Hot Peppers
Jalapeno
Yellow Marigolds
Dahlia's
Zinnia's
Cosmos
Aster
I couldn't find any starters for zuchini to save my life - so here's to hoping I can get the seeds I was able to find to sprout quickly!
Other updates to the garden ...

My sweet neighbor down the road also gifted me some moon flower sprouts - I'm hoping I can grow them up my side house trellis'. I also added limelight hydrangeas to the back side of our house. On the shaded side, I added some hostas to fill in the gaps between the hydrangeas I planted last year. And might I add - I had my doubts in the beginning of this season about the hydrangeas I got from Costco last year - but they seem to be coming back fairly strong. So prayers there! My Carolina Jasmine is slowly taking off around my garden entrance arbor & my pink roses (actually planted by our builders) are in full bloom!

Currently now I'm trying to "accesorize" & landscape around the house with hanging baskets, mulch, pine straw, bird feeders, garden decor, bird baths, etc. We had a patch where there was no grass in our front yard so we added some mulch and a shepard hook with a gorgeous pink floral hanging basket from Lewis Farms. I had been looking for a little garden gnome to add to my outdoor space and ironically when were were going through my brothers things - he had this funny cutie and he came down to NC with me and now I can think of my brother and his sense of humor everytime I see it outside. I also added a small concrete bird bath I found at Homegoods, but plan to buy a bigger one and put a solar fountain in it.

I didn't plant all my starters yet, because I had planned to get more garden beds ordered before we left for Michigan then I held off when we got back because I wasn't sure if I'd be growing anything at all considering all my seeds died. THEN I decided to get starters and welp life has been busy. I got all my Roma tomatoes together, but I ordered another bed to plant peppers in. I like to reserve one bed close to the windows for flowers because it's so delightful seeing the butterflies in the morning when you open the curtains. So in total right now I will have 3 beds, but looking to add a fourth!
Whew sorry for the lenghty update, but lots of changes! Stay tuned for more!
Thanks for reading!
